So I am seriously considering a website which brings the collecting community together.  I love this hobby.  What I would love to do is create a resource for sportscard and entertainment collectibles.  Of course we have Beckett.com, but to build something that Beckett doesn't have or to simplify it for those who don't enjoy sifting through everything.  One site that will allow you to:

  1. Buy, sell, trade -  like Sports Card Forum, Beckett, etc.
  2. Showcase collectors - Supercollectors, set builders, etc.
  3. Link collectors resources - wholesalers, supply companies, manufacturers, etc.
  4. Box break videos - updated daily with a special page for best pulls.
  5. TTM resources and forum
  6. Secondary market links/information/upcoming auctions
  7. Individual pages where members can upload their collection pics/vids, plus update the community on what they are collecting.
  8. Release calendar information/news
I'm a big fan of Sports Radio's site and their resources, but I'm looking for a cleaner, more organized site.  I would include article submissions from the community members about product reviews.

Your insight is appreciated!  What do you want to see??

When you wake up tomorrow, many are going to be immediately skeptical about Bryce Harper's MLB debut (at the time I'm writing this, his first MLB at-bat was a groundout to Dodger's pitcher Chad Billingsley).  It will be interesting to see what immediate impact a bad, good, or great game will have on the secondary market for Harper's cards.  The above pictured card is currently on Ebay at $1700.  From viewing secondary market information over the years (especially in the case of Harper's teammate, Stephen Strasburg), the first game makes a huge impact to sales overall.  For example, I have seen many auctions end lower than the current bidding due to buyer's remorse.  Harper hits an HR tonight and watch this card skyrocket.  If Harper goes 0-4, those not owning a Harper card will tell you that he's "overrated" and this card ends below $1700 from cancelled bidding.  Folks, remember how old Harper is.  Remember that he doesn't have many professional repetitions against big league pitching.  Bryce Harper will be ok.  Have faith in your collection...have faith in your investments.  A knee-jerk reaction may just cause collectors heartburn in the long run.

Sports Blog Ideas - Comments Welcome!

Well, to my first 5 subscribers...WELCOME!  Before submitting some marketing strategies for this site, I'm hoping to get some feedback on what you would like to see in this blog.  My plan is to include a release calendar, set checklists, box break videos, hobby news, secondary market items of interest, and supercollector highlights.  If any of you have ideas on what you would like to see, please feel free to comment (you can comment any time!).  I will, eventually, extend this blog into a website...leading to a hobby store (ala Blowoutcards or DA Card World)...of course, I hope to.  Also, if you have any ideas on promoting the site, please comment or email me at buckeyeprospect@yahoo.com

Hope to hear some great ideas from the people who know best!  Thanks!

What happened to Upper Deck? 2012 SP Signature Baseball Releasing May 1

So Upper Deck has decided to release 2012 SP Signature Edition Baseball by May 1, 2012.  Hmmmm.  No licensing for MLB.  $255 for 3 packs with 3 autographs per pack (9 autos total).  Flashback to 2007 UD Premier Baseball and collectors would be tripping over each other to grab these hobby boxes.  Upper Deck...2012 is completely different for you.  No logos....no pictures....no dice!  Trust me, you won't even see a cut auto in this!

It makes me really think about what Upper Deck once was.  Exclusive deals with the BEST athletes.  Products that no one could live up to.  No one could take down Upper Deck.  How are they going to pull themselves out of this black hole?  Comment/Post your thoughts.

Want to collect Andrew Luck? Pick 2012 Panini Prestige Football

Great article posted on Beckett.com!  Great product for football card collectors!

By Andrew Tolentino | Football Editor
Panini America previously offered a subtle sneak peek at 2012 Prestige Football by showing off  the first Tebow-Jets and Manning-Broncos cards. The manufacturer continued to pipe the hype today with more details regarding its June 20 release.
Arming the hobby with the first official Rookie Cards from this year’s newcomers, 2012 Prestige will be the platform for Panini’s real(ish)-time reveal during this Thursday’s 2012 NFL Draft.
Once players are picked, the company’s quick-handed design team will dream up and deliver cards similar to the ones seen here, but with respective NFL logos and draft information. Each box will come loaded with 24 packs and a minimum of  two autographs (four hits guaranteed in total). Other box-level finds include: 24 Rookie Cards, one Alternate Rookie, three Extra Points Gold, two Extra Points Blue, two NFL Draft Tickets, three Prestigious Picks Gold, two Draft City Destination, two NFL Passport and six additional inserts or parallels.
The autograph game includes a number of hard-signed pieces found in the following forms:
  • NFL Draft Ticket Signatures
  • Draft City Destination Signatures
  • NFL Passport Signatures
Landing so early in the football card season, Prestige gets its prestige by delivering early Rookie Cards. Newcomers will be featured  in a 100-card Rookie subset headlined by Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III, Trent Richardson, Ryan Tannehill, Justin Blackmon, Kendall Wright and other big names. Panini also noted that several other fresh faces, including Morris Claiborne, Matt Kalil, Dre Kirkpatrick, Melvin Ingram, Mark Barron, David Wilson and Lamar Miller will have signatures to supplement the increasingly intense autograph chase.

The Collecting Fool's Welcome!

First, I would like to thank all of you for visiting my blog AND official 1st blog post on Blogger!  It is with great pleasure to introduce you to a fun spot for all sorts of collectors worldwide!  Personally, I'm a collector at heart.  I have a quarter of a century experience in collecting.  Beginning at age 12, I frequently visited garage sales, flea markets, and collectors shows looking for "treasure".  Over the years, my personal passion of collecting led me to collect everything from toys, antiques, comics, and Indian artifacts.  Although I still own many of my early purchases, my real passion has always been in the world of sports.  I have a terrible addiction collecting sports cards and memorabilia.  Yes, I am one of those who sifts through thousands of listings on Ebay and still frequents sports card shows.

One of my favorite things to do is research what others collect.  Some of my favorite videos to watch on YouTube are those that include people showing off their personal collections.

Primarily, this blog post will focus on sports collectibles.  For those of you who love sports and/or entertainment collectibles, this will surely be the blog spot to join!  For those of you that are not big fans of sports...I will have posts for you too!

My blog will focus on the following topics:

  1. Supercollectors - This is a term used to describe people who collect with so much passion, they have to have everything!  I like to call them "organized hoarders" because their collections are GIGANTIC but extremely organized.  Supercollectors are proud of their "museum-like" displays (please note that I enjoy using " " throughout my posts).  What I hope to include in my posts are videos created by passionate collectors who would love to show off their labor...let's see what you have worked hard to collect!  If you have a video you would like to submit, please send your video to buckeyeprospect@yahoo.com and anyone taking the time to make a video will be posted!
  2. Secondary Market Report - I will routinely post the most interesting items for sale on the secondary market.  Again, most of the focus will be on sports collectibles, but you will see items from the world of toys, antiques, entertainment, etc.  If you have a particular collecting passion, send me a message at buckeyeprospect@yahoo.com and I will certainly consider making it a regular Market Report item!
  3. What's Hot, What's Not - Many items become hot collectibles for many different reasons, whether it be a new movie is releasing soon, it's a new toy fad, or unfortunately some hot collectibles begin when someone passes away.  So who is the next big sports prospect?
  4. News - It is very important to keep collectors up-to-date on the what, where, when, why, and how.  Want to know what big events are coming up?  Want some crazy auction news?  Want to see the coolest collectible items?  This segment will probably be your favorite spot to read.
Of course, I will be looking for more topics to cover and/or discover.  But whatever it is that you may collect, you might find some valuable information in the near future.  I will also be looking forward to carrying this blog spot on to bigger and brighter horizons...maybe a website dedicated to collectors with awesome forums!

Please make sure to sign up for my blogs.  Also, feel free to support this blog spot by checking out some of the sponsored listings on the page or visiting posted links.  Your support is appreciated and your help is always needed!

Thanks again for visiting The Collecting Fool's Blog Spot!  More to come very soon...join in!
